about

6. Sunny Water – This song has a nice digital feel. I always saw Zendaya dancing to this song for some reason. Even when I was writing the beat. The bass line has the warm drive that I always dug, and so once again I told myself, “Speak, but allow the beat to speak also.” In order for me to do this, I approached it from a singers perspective, and only brought in the rap flow to work almost as a hook. I wanted people to anticipate it. My guitar line kind of drove it, but I still needed more. So when I asked my good friend Patrick Fritz to play, I knew he would add that extra level of catchiness to the tune. And as usual, he nailed it. I knew it was a single from day one. The premise of the song was all about reflection. Not a deep reflection, just a look at how the world sees you. So I thought of a lake on a sunny day. What looks back at you when you look out into the world?

lyrics

Sunny Water

Slide in rain, role with pain
Live and let it be what some
Never lived it but want some

Relation, life too bare
Let them know when you talk some
They don’t know what you walk from

Let it be the alley way, bizarre when I talk my
Jedi the mentality but I’m from the dark side
Born inside the world so when I tell you to mark my
High in the way I live come take a walk I

Missed a few steps and I tripped on a word
Meant to say I love you, but missed the nerve
If I was to go back, that’s just absurd
On to the future, for what it’s worth

We don’t mind that walking when
Something goes, Our way in that counterwind
Let go, it all in that solar blend
Fresh flow, that rain wash it all begin

Cool and calm we are
The life to light the star
Candle light of air, flight without the stairs
On my own a zone, me myself my own

Walk the water way, be a quarter Jay
Strike a modest tone, life in ribosomes
Night is what I’ve known, stars maybe
Y’all crazy nah baby, I’m lately in a fog
Can’t see the life lately, I dreamed of, gone maybe

Let it be the alley way, bizarre when I talk my
Jedi the mentality but I’m from the dark side
Born inside the world so when I tell you to mark my
High in the way I live come take a walk I

Missed a few steps and I tripped on a word
Meant to say I love you, but missed the nerve
If I was to go back, that’s just absurd
On to the future, for what it’s worth

We don’t mind that walking when
Something goes, Our way in that counterwind
Let go, it all in that solar blend
Fresh flow, that rain wash it all begin
Yes no

We don’t mind that walking when
Something goes, Our way in that counterwind
Let go, it all in that solar blend
Fresh flow, that rain wash it all begin
Again so
